Terri Osborne is running for Alabama House District 96 to serve as a voice “for the least of these.”
Osborne, 63, a professional geologist, will challenge the Republican primary nominee for the Alabama State House District 96 seat in the Nov. 3 general election.
Osborne says she will use her vote to speak for families facing impossible affordability choices as food prices raise and their health insurance premiums spike. For parents delaying doctor visits. For small business owners, seniors and rural families losing coverage, watching health care slip further out of reach—again.
“You know the golden rule,” she said. “Those who have the gold make the rules.”
A strong work ethic comes naturally to Osborne, who grew up with a father who was a union man and who often worked double shifts to provide for his family. Her mother was a licensed surgical nurse who was at work early every morning.
“I will be your mouthpiece for all of you facing higher grocery prices, rising rent, increasing home prices, and soaring utility bills. For students who are unable to pursue nursing degrees in the wake of changes in federal student loan rules, for all the first-time home-buyers who can’t save for a down payment while paying rising rent.”
Osborne stands to represent marginalized communities seeing their culture and history being quashed as the Alabama GOP works in lockstep to rub out policies and programs that have long been a hand up to those facing societal challenges. She will be the voice to speak against Simpson’s votes to restrict public colleges and state agencies from maintaining DEI offices. Republican state lawmakers have voted to ban the state from sponsoring DEI programs and to prohibit the promotion of "divisive concepts" regarding race, sex, or religion in state-funded settings.
As a transgender woman, Osborne knows how it feels to be “the least of these.” She has seen that not having a voice in the legislature can lead to destruction of rights, stripping away of medical care, and state policing of body autonomy.
As rapid growth races through District 96, Osborne believes she is the kind of environmental and civil rights steward that the major municipalities (Daphne and Spanish Fort) of District 96 want as their voice in the state legislature
Osborne is also a musician who enjoys playing guitar and bass, singing and writing songs. She’s been a faithful member of the Open Table United Church of Christ church in Mobile for more than a decade.
